KL, Terengganu secure Malaysian Super League promotion

SELAYANG: Kuala Lumpur ended a five-year wait to secure promotion to the Malaysian Super League along with Terengganu after securing victories in their penultimate Premier League matches on Tuesday.

Guilherme De Paula scored either side of half-time to take his season tally to 29 goals as KL downed Sabah 2-0 in Selayang while Terengganu's 3-0 win over Police in Kuala Terengganu ensured they returned to the top-flight a year after being relegated.

KL and Terengganu, both on 47 points with one match left to play, are assured of filling the top two positions in the Premier League and cannot be caught by third-placed Perak State Economic Development Corporation, who trail by seven points with two games to play.

"We are happy to have returned to the Super League and we are determined not to just make up the numbers next year," said Kuala Lumpur Football Association president Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan.

"Only good performances will be able to bring the fans back and hopefully, with our return to our stadium in Cheras, we will get better support."

Terengganu secured victory over Police, the nominal host of the fixture which was shifted from Melaka at the last minute, through goals by Faiz Nasir, Kipre Tchetche and Issey Nakajima-Farran.

Three teams remain in danger of relegation at the bottom after Armed Forces and MISC-MFA drew 1-1 in Shah Alam while Perlis crashed to a 5-1 defeat to 10-man Johor Darul Ta'zim II in Kangar.

Perlis, with 12 points, are just a point ahead of Forces and MISC-MIFA.
