FAM admits mistake, Kunanlan own goal should have stood

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has admitted that Perak should have been given the own goal scored by Darul Ta'zim's S. Kunanlan during the two teams' Malaysia Cup semi-final second leg clash at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium last night.

FAM Referees Committee Chairman Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh said referee Mohd Zohri Tajuddin and second assistant referee Nojey Naking had wrongly interpreted the incident.

The own goal by Kunanlan was disallowed as Perak striker Zaquan Adha Abd Radzak was said to be in an offside position as he made contact with the ball.

Video replays, however, showed that Zaquan did not interfere in the play or touch the ball.

"The Darul Ta'zim player (Kunanlan) had not been blocked by Zaquan and it (own goal) was his own mistake," said Subkhiddin.

"It was a difficult decision for the assistant referee as he saw that Zaquan was in an offside position and was very close to Kunanlan.

"It is easy to spot on television with the video replays but was a very tough call to make on the pitch."

Darul Ta'zim won the match 3-0 to advance to the Malaysia Cup final with a 4-1 aggregate win over Perak. They will play defending champions Kedah in the Malaysia Cup decider.
